St Lawrence C E Primary School Curriculum

The key to high achieving children is a curriculum that inspires great learning with a smile.  Here at St Lawrence we combine a creative approach to curriculum organisation with recognition that basic skills form a strong foundation to excellence.

We love projects that combine history, geography, art, design technology, music and literacy (English).  The Romans, the Victorians, London stories (based on the Creative Learning Journey), People who help us and Water are just a selection of some of this years project titles.

A strong maths and English curriculum is followed throughout the school.  This is based on national expectations of course, but with links to the other subjects (including science), writing days each Friday and our daily focus on basic skills, we like to think that we go one step further!

Basic skills include:

  • Spelling and phonics
  • Handwriting – Class 2 to 4
  • Keyboard skills – Class 5 to 6
  • Number bonds
  • Timetables
  • Vocabulary development (dictionary and thesaurus workshops)
  • “Take Ten” – physical warm ups for our youngest children in the hall based on role play, dance, exercises and drama.

Oh yes….some of our French and German classes are held in these times as well!

Our children love learning and make good progress as a result.
